Hormone Queens Joins the CEO Sleepout to Champion Older Women Facing Homelessness

Hormone Queens is proud to participate in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, a vital initiative raising awareness and funds for Australians experiencing homelessness. This cause resonates deeply with our mission, as we stand in solidarity with the growing number of mature-aged women facing housing insecurity across Australia.?

A Hidden Crisis: Older Women and Homelessness

Older women are the fastest-growing demographic among Australia's homeless population. Between 2011 and 2016, the number of homeless women over 55 increased by more than 30% . In total, over 405,000 women aged 45 and older are at risk of homelessness .?
This crisis stems from a lifetime of systemic challenges: lower lifetime earnings, unpaid caregiving roles, limited superannuation, and the financial fallout from divorce or widowhood. Many women find themselves without a safety net, navigating the private rental market on fixed incomes or pensions.?

Why Hormone Queens Stands Behind the CEO Sleepout

At Hormone Queens, we advocate for the health, dignity, and empowerment of women—especially those in midlife and beyond. Participating in the CEO Sleepout is more than symbolic; it’s a commitment to change. By spending a night outdoors, we aim to spotlight the unique vulnerabilities older women face and to support the services that offer them hope.

Funds directly support Vinnies' initiatives, including emergency accommodation, meals, and long-term housing solutions . In Queensland, these efforts contribute to the "500 Homes in 5 Years" project, aiming to provide secure housing for those in need?
